Notes:

Towards the shoot apex, the petals progressively change to leaves: first the petals become truncate then they become striped instead of pure scarlet and the ovary enlarges (?prematurely), then the petals become green, finally they are replaced entirely by reduced leaves which may increase in number.

The plant seems to set seed normally, at least on the older parts, but maybe this is before these progressive changes.
