| Review (by Malcolm Storey) | Wolbachia endosymbionts transmit mitochondria between host species, so that DNA barcoding fails to distinguish them. Barcoding relies on the single mitochondrial gene, cytochrome oxidase 1 (COI). ITS2 gave results inline with what would be expected from morphology and suggests that the species concerned are not even particularly closely related. |
