The photographs, rather unattractively presented on a black background, occupy pages 31 to 244. This is followed by the species descriptions up to page 882. Each description starts with the major features (italicised) followed by a fuller description, season, habitat and distribution. Finally a short paragraph sums up how to recognise it. Thumbnail drawings of spores and cystidia etc accompany it in the margin.
