A rust fungus forming aecia (cluster cups) on Parnassia, Pedicularis and Ribes, and forming uredia and telia on various species of Carex. There are a number of closely-similar varieties which are restricted to different hosts. Early records may include P. urticata and its varieties which has only recently been separated. P. urticata forms aecia on Urtica.
