Specimen Prep. Colours in the key refer to living or freshly killed specimens. Preserve dry or in 70% alcohol. For examination permanent microscope slide preps are recommended: macerate in 10-15% KOH, wash, stain with Acid Fuchsin, Fast Green, Lignin Pink or Chlorazol-Black E, dehydrate and mount in Euparal or Canada Balsam. Dissection of mouthparts (often) and genitalia (usually) may be necessary.
