A User-friendly Key to the Genus Leccinum in Great Britain

A well-produced and useful account of this increasingly difficult genus. After a general introduction, the key character states are described in some detail. This is followed by a letter-based synoptic key to species groups, keys to each species group and a short account for each species.

The key follows Lannoy & Estades work which is now superseded.

Comments and Corrigenda Field Mycology volume 1 (2), page 55, gives an update to the key to separate L. aurantiacum and L. populinum in couplet 4.
Coverage All the British species recognised at the time, although several of these have since been "lumped" following DNA work.
Illustrations Colour photographs on the back cover and small thumbnails used for examples of characters in the main text.
Identify Under a Compound Microscope.
Specimen Prep. Fresh specimens, colour changes on cutting, microscopy of cap cuticle.
Difficulty A few can be identified macroscopically, and the remainder are comparatively straightforward if you do the microscopy.
News Subsequent DNA work on Leccinum has shown the plethora of new species introduced by Lannoy & Estades to be merely habitat-induced variations.
