Nordic Macromycetes, Vol 1 (Ascomycetes)

The present work is part of a three volume set covering the macrofungi of Scandinavia and Iceland. This volume covers non-lichenised ascomycetes from selected groups (see page 39) which include most of the species likely to be noticed by the non-specialist. The present interpretation of "macrofungi" includes much smaller fungi than is normally the case and all but the smallest ascomycetes are covered.

The work comprises a set of keys, initially to orders and familes, followed by keys to genera and species. Each section is written by a separate specialist. The final species entries include a short species account, with a short list of published illustrations and distribution in the Nordic countries.

Although Britain is outside the study area, our mycota (especially northern England and Scotland) is very similar to that of Scandinavia, although users in the south of England should take extra care when using this work.

In this volume the coverage is reasonably complete within the state of knowledge at the time.
