Marasmius oreades (Bolton) Fr., 1836 (Fairy Ring Champignon)

Notes (MWS) The Fairy Ring Champignon is the main cause of 'Fairy Rings' - circles of longer and darker green grass - in grassland, including meadows, lawns and road verges throughout the British Isles. The toadstools appear after rain during the summer and autumn and being somewhat leathery are quite long-lived. It is comparatively tolerant of pollution and fertilizer. Although frequently eaten, great care should be taken to avoid confusion with the deadly poisonous white Clitocybes with which it often grows.
