Trametes versicolor (L.) Pilát, 1939 (Turkeytail)

Notes (MWS) This is our commonest bracket fungus. It grows on stumps and fallen wood of a variety of broadleaves and even conifers. It is very variable in colour from almost white to charcoal black, by way of various shades of grey, brown, reddish and yellowish, often the same fruitbody having concentric zones of different colours. The fruitbodies of a single colony are very similar which has lead to speculation about multiple species being involved.
