State: Imperfect stage
Record Summary: black patches on carrots, stored in garage
Associated organism: on stored taproot of Daucus carrota
Identification Notes: Superficial black mould growth on carrots in domestic storage.

The three infection spots photographed in close-up were individually confirmed microscopically.

An extremely fertile mould with conidia of two types:

Type 1 conidial chains: terminal, with dark grey walls, smooth, in chains of (2)3-9 so appearing multiseptate, shortly cylindric with flat ends, 7-9/10-11.5µm,(terminal conidium hemispherical), flat end-wall often with a minute central pore, arising from broad, c.8µm diam, multi-septate pale grey hyphae.

Type 2 phialoconidia: hyaline, smooth, cylindric, flat ended, very variable in size, 5-24/3-4.5µm, extruded through long tapering apex of pale grey narrowly fusiform phialides 130-180/7-8µm which are 3-7 septate towards base.
