Agrobacterium tumefaciens (Crown Gall - Causative Organism)

Date: 19 April 2007
Location: Berks, England
Record Summary: galled Sallow branches and trunk
Associated organism: on live, galled branch of Salix caprea
Identification Notes: Galls on small branches, cankers on major ones.

An old gall, found on a fallen twig next to the Phytoplasma gall that is so common on Salix. Dry-corky texture, with internal tunnels. Similar tunnel running down the centre of twig which connected with the scar around the galls and probably both galls - possibly an old Saperda populnea stem mine.

Need to revisit and collect some fresh material.
