Orchesella cincta (a sprintail)
| Date: |
30 June 2006 |
| Location: |
East Sussex, England |
| Record Summary: |
on dock |
| Associated organism: |
on live leaf of Rumex |
| Identification Notes: |
Id by Frans Janssens who writes: "A juvenile specimen. Note the teratological aberration in its antennae. They are asymmetrical. The left antenna has been broken and is partially recovered. Specimens with asymmetrical antennae are typically found in the genus Orchesella. The genus Orchesella is characterised by the subsegmentation of the two basal segments. It appears as if the antenna has 6 segments instead of the usual 4. This condition can be observed well in the right antenna of this specimen." |
