Record Summary: larval cases and feeding traces on Silver Birch
Associated organism: on underside of living leaf of Betula pendula
Identification Notes: Discarded first cases and inhabited second cases.
The larva overwinters in the first case. When the host plant leafs up the larva crawls to the base of the underside of the leaf and cuts away a strip from the leaf edge. This is used to build the second case and the first case is left behind. Subsequent feeding is from the case on the leaf underside via entry holes into the leaf where they form blotch mines.
Several adults emerged 20th to 23 May 02
