Digitalis purpurea L. (Foxglove)

Date: 1 June 2000
Location: Berks, England
State: Plant
Record Summary: "Centroradialis" form
Identification Notes: Monstrous terminal flower caused by a double recessive gene at a locus called "centroradialis".
The flowering stem terminates in the centre of the flower, so it appears the main shoot had formed the flower rather than a side shoot as is normally the case. There were two green and two purple very narrowly conical flowers behind the monstrous one, as well as a deformed one inside the flower itself. The stamens and anthers were very large.
