Nordic Macromycetes, Vol 2 (Polyp., Bolet., Agaric., Russ.)

The present work is part of a three volume set covering the macrofungi of Scandinavia and Iceland. This volume covers basidiomycetes with stipe and cap: ie Polyporus, Boletes, Agarics and Russulales. Resupinate and gasteroid relatives are covered in Vol 3.

The work comprises a set of keys, initially to orders and families, followed by keys to genera and species. Each section is written by a separate specialist. The final species entries include a short species account, with a short list of published illustrations and distribution in the Nordic countries.

The coverage varies from genus to genus, and the excluded species are often listed: eg. long lists are given for Phlegmacium, Telamonia and Inocybe. Other genera just quote numbers, eg Coprinus covers 48 out of 85 spp. and Psathyrella covers 77 spp out of an unspecified total.

Although Britain is outside the study area, our mycota (especially northern England and Scotland) is very similar to that of Scandinavia. However users in the south of England should take extra care when using this work.
