Google Earth puts a planet's worth of imagery and other geographic information right on your desktop.

Urban areas are often available in greater detail than remote rural locations, but the detail is incredible - you'll probably be able to see your own house!

Requires Broadband and works on Mac (OS X 10.3.9+) or PC (W2000/XP) although older equipment (say desktops pre-2002 and notebooks pre-2004) may not have enough resources.
