Pochin, E

British Birds' Eggs and Their Nests

Undated but apparently mid 1940's.

A short guide arranged by nest location. The paintings of eggs are beautifully reproduced for the time. Although covering only a small number of species, it includes many of the most familiar.

Birds eggs are beautiful objects. While certainly not suggesting that people should hunt for nests to see the eggs, it isn't unusual to find fragments or even whole abandoned eggs (or almost whole predated ones) and one always wonders what bird laid it. It's a shame that books on eggs and nests have so fallen out of favour.
