A comprehensive monograph of European pored brackets and resupinates, in two volumes. Vol 1 covers introduction, macromorphology, micromorphology, taxonomy, decay, pathology, culture, sexuality, forest regions, mycogeography, advice for collecting and determination, key to families and genera, lists of genera with distinctive characters, accounts for genera Abortiporus to Lindtnera. Vol 2 provides accounts for Meripilus to Tyromyces, acknowledgements, authors of names, etymology, references and index.

The species accounts are very detailed, and the drawings large and clear, if at times a little diagrammatic.

Identify Under a Compound Microscope.
Specimen Prep. Microscopy of spores, basidia and context hyphae. Section hymenium and context with a razor blade, mount in dilute KOH and examine under phase contrast, alternatively stain in Cotton Blue in lactic acid or Congo Red in conc ammonia etc - details on page 64.
Difficulty Some experience is needed to interpret context hyphae.
