Cossidae to Helionidinidae (vol 2)
This volume covers the families Cossidae to Helionidinidae, including the large leaf-miner genus Phyllonorycter.
The taxonomic section starts with the Key to families of Ditrysia, giving the disposition of each family within the series (the family classification is revised in Vol 4 - Part 2).
Each family includes a checklist, very clear line drawings of the genitalia of each species where needed, keys to imagines and detailed species accounts. These include descriptions of the life stages with host plant(s) or pabula, comments on similar species and a vice-county distribution map.
There are also keys to Zygaenid larvae and coccons, cases of full-grown Psychid larvae, Gracillariid mines by host plant and Phyllonorycter pupae by host plant.
An introductory chapter covers: British Aposematic (ie with warning colouration, scent, sound, behaviour etc) Lepidotera (M. Rothschild)
