A Key to the Adults of British Trichoptera
A short introduction followed by dichotomous keys to the adults. Many of the genera are distinguished by details of wing venation which can be difficult to see (especially the hindwing). The species usually rely on external genitalia which must be carefully oriented to match the illustrations. This is not helped by confusing labelling of the figures and related species often being illustrated from different angles!

| Comments and Corrigenda |
Macan is perhaps too dismissive of identification of dried specimens. The genitalia do distort, but can usually still be interpreted.
The treatment of Hydropsyche is not reliable.
Ian Wallace has written a paper listing the problems (errata, new species, splits etc) likely to be encountered using this work. |
